The 2013 edition of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles has awarded Tinto Gran Claustro 2006 has received one of the coveted Great Gold Medals (less than 1% of the wines got this award.

The itinerant Concours Mondial de Bruxelles, which has just released its results, took place in Bratislava (Slovakia) on May 10, 11 and 12. A total 8,200 wines from 50 producer countries competed before a hand-picked selection of the world’s foremost tasters. Sommeliers, wine buyers, importers, journalists and wine writers – in all 305 wine tasters representing 40 nationalities – gathered for 3 days to judge this year’s entries. The diverse range both of entries and backgrounds of the tasters themselves is one of the archetypal features of a competition that in just a few years has emerged as a world wine and spirits ‘tasting championship’.

As is customary, less than 1 percent of the 8,200 entries were awarded a Grande Médaille d’Or. It is noteworthy that this is the fourth time that Gran Claustro gets the top award at the Concours Mondial. Its vintages 2001, 2004 and 2005 also got Great Gold Medals in recent years.

Produced using the best from each of our estates, the Gran Claustro brings together the best sensation of this beautiful land, confirming the old adage that “a wine is the landscape of a country concentrated in a wine glass”. This wine is produced using only selected grapes from the best harvests, which are always hand picked. Gran Claustro 2006 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Garnatxa and Samsó aged for sixteen months in new Allier French oak barrels.
