Finca Malaveïna 2009, Gold Medal in Canada

Finca Malaveïna 2009 keeps getting awards in the main wine events of the world. After achieving the highest score at the last edition of the Spanish Concurso Internacional de Vinos Bacchus, Castillo Perelada’s red wine has now received the Gold Medal at Sélections Mondiales des Vins in Canada, a competition which has reached it’s 30th edition and is one of the oldest and most prestigious of the world.

The contest has taken place inQuebecand gathered 1,700 wines from 34 different countries. An international jury of 74 tasters have chosen the best.

Finca Malaveïna 2009 is a blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvigno, Syrah and Garnatxa aged for 16 months in French oak barrels. The result is a cherry red colour wine. Its deep aroma reminds of red fruits and displays some spicy notes. In the mouth it is round, meaty, well structured and balsamic. Its acidity is very fresh. Tannins are ripe. It exhibits an excellent balance, great palate and long after-taste. Finca Malaveïna sports the marked personality of the vineyard where it was born, and has a long ageing potential. The vintage 2009 is available not only in the standard 75cl, but also in magnum and jeroboam bottles.

Finca Malaveïna is exclusively made from grapes grown at the estate of the same name, located near the bodega. Malaveïna was designed as a vineyard aimed at obtaining extraordinary wines. In this estate of22 hectares of red clay slopes,with lovely views over the Mediterranean and thePyrenees, the yield is of approximately 5,000 Kgs/ha.
